NFDC KNOWLEDGE SERIES

The NFDC Knowledge Series is a program of carefully structured lectures and panel discussions where film industry experts discuss various aspects of the film business and its dimensions at length. The idea is to bring together Film Bazaar attendees for recurring discussions, focusing on distinct subjects, where everyone present can actively participate.

The Series includes topics that give a thorough low-down on the current industry trends, skills and techniques we must carry forward from the past, and speculate on the future inclination of the industry. Noted speakers provide insights and share their expertise and knowledge with emerging professionals.

It is a platform that brings together a diverse section from the global film fraternity including writers, directors, producers, distributors, sales agents, etc. during the market period. The program consists of informal interactive sessions, panel discussions & debates, crowd sourced Q & A with the speaker(s), and press conferences; covering a variety of topics such as screenwriting, production, financing, film festivals & markets, and contemporary techniques of filmmaking and distribution.

The 2011 NFDC Knowledge Series saw acclaimed speakers such as the Producer Cedomir Kolar (No Man’s Land) and Marten Rabarts (Artistic Director, Binger Film Labs) conducting the session on Making The Right Pitch while Patrick Frater (CEO Film Business Asia) and Michael J. Werner (Chairman of Fortissimo Films) deliberated on Working The Markets.

International delegates coming to India to increase their understanding of Indian Cinema gained from hearing mainstream and independent filmmakers' views on the current trends that are shaping the film industry here. Abhay Deol, Zoya Akhtar, Kalki Koechlin and Sanjay Suri debated with established film critic Shubhra Gupta on the language of new cinema in India, in the session titled Are New Age Filmmakers Trendsetters? Popular critic and entertainment editor CNN-IBN, Rajeev Masand with ace choreographer and director Farah Khan discussed the thematic relevance of item songs in Indian films. FB delegates were provided with a series of sessions on co-producing internationally; industry representatives from Canada, Australia, Italy and Poland conducted all-inclusive, informative sessions on the subject.
